I want to draw on hes head :(

  2. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 3:37 am

@poltergeistish replying to all your questions:
    1. cannot use someone else’s donor hair. it will be rejected.
    2. it can be taken from other areas of the body using FUE but there is only limited supply and does not grow as perfectly as scalp hair.
    3. hair cannot be reprogrammed or saved but propecia/rogaine keep the programming longer so to speak.
    best,
    sml

  3. poltergeistish // August 24th, 2010 at 4:07 am

this may sound stupid but can donor hair be someone else? and can it be taken from facial hair? beard, sideburns…?
if I still have a lot of hair on the top of the scalp, can transplant somehow save it, “reprogram” it somehow?

  4. poltergeistish // August 24th, 2010 at 4:07 am

    I’m 23 and I guess i better start saving for transplant…
if i haven’t lost my hair but starting to, can the ones that are on my top part of the scalp be saved somehow? Propecia, does it work? should one try with it as well?

one question, may be stupid, but can donor be someone else… like brother, father, sister….?

    @kh1129 u r funny!

  6. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 4:31 am

@kh1129 yes, but it is not as reliable as a first line use. body hair can be used when other donor hair is burnt out.

  7. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 5:00 am

@trevormac77 personally far off still. but they have made some advances.

  8. trevormac77 // August 24th, 2010 at 5:29 am

how far off on the horizon do you think hair cloning is?

  9. PowerRedBull // August 24th, 2010 at 6:16 am

    @OpuSIII

They both work best on young men, becuase young men, even before visually become balding, they’re already running out of donar hair before they notice. This is because testosterone levels are the highest in young men, yet their hair roots are still able to produce alot of hair. However, they’re runing out of them while not noticing any hair loss. The thing is that out of every hair root, only a certain amount of hairs will grow in your life. When you’re balding, you’ve already run out ALOT

  11. torkerbmx // August 24th, 2010 at 7:10 am

that dude talks alot about ????? what did he say ??

  12. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 7:11 am

yes, but it may not grow as naturally as normal hair. it is a last resort area to harvest.

  13. kh1129 // August 24th, 2010 at 7:22 am

In all seriousness can body hair (chest/back) be graphed onto the scalp for hair restoration surgery?

  14. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 8:19 am

the hair is not pulled out. it is removed from the back and moved to the front. once it has been moved to the front, it is no longer in the back, which means after 5 to 7 times typically, you are out of donor hair. that may sound like you have a lot of times but i need to gauge how much loss you have and how best i can ensure that we do not run out of donor hair in the future. however, at 31, you will definitely need more sessions in the future due to further hair loss.

  15. russellolmedo // August 24th, 2010 at 8:45 am

I’m 31 and my hairline looks exactly like the one portrayed here. You seem to imply in the responses to the comments below that donor areas can’t be used over and over to provide hair for the rest of the head. Won’t hair just regrow after being pulled out?

  16. kh1129 // August 24th, 2010 at 9:00 am

I have plenty of hair on my back, chest, and other regions. Can’t they just transplant that to my head. I’m dead serious, I have plenty of body hair! I’m like a werewolf, or a bearskin rug.

  17. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 9:20 am

at 25 with rapidly progressive loss, you should be on rogaine and propecia. they not only both work. they work better in young men starting to lose hair. however, you are correct you need to be on them for the rest of your life or you will have lost what you gained during the time you were on them.

  18. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 9:53 am

at 23 i would be very careful to do it because you might run out of donor hair to cover the transplant result. this is hard to explain but i would be very careful to do a transplant at your age.

  19. OpuSIII // August 24th, 2010 at 10:26 am

Hello Sam, I’am 25 years old and also going bald, it seems to get noticeably worse every few 3 to 4 months. What would you recommend doing? Also does using Rogaine and/or Propecia work? If I were to use it would I use it to the point where I’m comfortable with the hair growth or is it something I would have to take for the rest of my life or so?

    Please help. Thank you.

  20. kh1129 // August 24th, 2010 at 10:29 am

Wow how much does this cost. I’m 23, and need like 1/64th the amount of hair restoration the guy in the video needs.

  21. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 10:47 am

if you are as young as you are and a male, it is not advisable in many cases to do a hair transplant because over time with further hair loss you may run out of hair to cover the area that was transplanted. hope that makes sense.

  22. ejiroy // August 24th, 2010 at 11:30 am

could you give me a rough estimate, its no that much hair gone, and I want it just moderately dense

  23. ejiroy // August 24th, 2010 at 11:47 am

I’m 21, and have been losing my hair for about 4 or 5 years now. I got the “V” or “M” look in the front of my head. Would the procedure look good on a african american, and how much is it per graft?

  24. samlammd // August 24th, 2010 at 12:32 pm

that question depends on so many factors: how dense is your donor hair, how much hair loss you have and how much more would i expect, can you afford more sessions (which you will need given your young age), is your crown opening to the point that i really will have a bald patch left then i would recommend shaving. it is complicated and requires an inperson consultation for making the best decisions.
    best,
    dr. sam lam
